Publication in Chem (2025)

Dr Krystyna Maslowska-Jarzyna from the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw, in collaboration with the group of Prof. Philip Gale at the University of Technology Sydney and researchers from the University of Sydney, has published a review article in Chem entitled “Recent discoveries in anion receptor chemistry” (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chempr.2025.102695).

Anions play a crucial role in biological systems and many industrial processes. Therefore, scientists in the field of supramolecular anion chemistry are actively developing selective anion receptors, chemosensors, and transporters, which may find applications, e.g. in the treatment of cancer and cystic fibrosis. Research on anion recognition-based catalysts is also progressing – these are often metal-free molecules that employ hydrogen bond donors to stabilize reaction intermediates.

The publication summarizes the most important advances of recent years, highlighting the significance of anion recognition for both fundamental research and future biomedical and materials applications. It represents an important reference point for the entire field and indicates directions for further development in supramolecular chemistry.
